A Heart-shaped Road by Angela Lansbury (Cheerful Poem 14)

We drove along

A heart-shaped road

The trees above

Were holding hands

They bowed and kissed

Like hand in glove

And waved and missed

Like waves of love

The trunks were straight

 The trunks were tall

As proud and solid

As a wall

They thread their roots

To hold the land

Instinctively

Like toes grip sand

The light above

Sent speckled shadows

Blessed small bright flowers

Like gems in meadows

And though I love

My own abode

I'll paint a picture

In my mind

Like tea for when hungry\

Like glasses for the blind

Paid in the bank of memory

To carry any load

Scenes dark and light

I left behind

Along a lovely

Heart-shaped road.
