I was on linkedIn reading about suggested stories used by speakers for the storytelling (training) manual. One person mentioned the Room on the Broom. So I looked it up. I found a delightful animation of the story on YouTube. Every rhyme was a surprise. The concept was new - animals on a broom. Two or three morals were clear. In a high wind, secure your hat. When you find something which somebody else has lost, return it. One good turn deserves another. When you return something you may be rewarded. Don't overload by putting too many people on any object. (In this a broomstick breaks. Adults would think of a balcony.) The wooden support breaks when you jump up and down. (I think that to be a bit more realistic the people falling from a great height should at least have got a bit bruised, ending up covered in plasters.) I thought that the broomstick ending up with seats resembled an aircraft.
My next task, to continue writing children's stories in rhyme. So far I have written only one, We saw a dinosaur. But I also have a book of poems on pets and pests.
